Ontario: Not mandatory, but by law insurers must offer a discount, usually 2 to 5 percent, for installing winter tires. Studded tires are restricted to Northern Ontario.

Manitoba: No mandate, but Manitoba Public Insurance offers low-interest financing of up to 2,000 dollars per vehicle for winter tires.

Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Atlantic Canada: No legal requirement, but winter tires are strongly recommended, and insurers can consider your tire choice after a winter collision.
